CANAAN ends

And it was incredibly disappointing.
To be honest, my motivation for watching this show was not its (nonexistent) plot, it was entirely because I thought Maria was so incredibly cute and SUGOI. And then crazy hot chinese Rie Tanaka joined, and it was good. And then Yun Yun came along, and it became enjoyable. And then it had the coolest taxi driver ever, and it became awesome. But then… Maria started going lesmo1, Rie’s character became so batshit insane because of her unrequited lesbian crush that it was just too creepy (so creepy than having her wear sexy lingerie even accentuated how fucked up she was), the taxi driver was rarely shown (heck, I almost dropped the show once, but then whoever wrote this shit probably felt the disturbance in the force and he made a quick cameo just to grab our attention again), and Yun Yun… kept being even more awesome.
See, Yun Yun was the only character that saved the show. She was funny, likeable, had enough character development (which doesn’t count much in this show but whatever) and in the very end she became a bad enough dudette to jump off a train and save her bleeding friend from a bomb with only seconds to spare. Man… after this performance, I just can’t bring myself to diss Haruka Tomatsu anymore. I look forward to hearing more of her from her future roles.
Now, I have only mostly talked about the “good” parts of the show. Without even mentioning the titular character. The writers probably wanted to make her enigmatic, mysterious, but… Canaan was actually one of the most bland and uninteresting characters in the whole show. The character had no depth, no goals, zero zip nilch nada. Nothing to make you care about her. And her looks were meh, she looked like an effeminate boy, you could tell anyone who didn’t watch the show that she is a boy and they’d probably buy it (at least she sports a ponytail in the last episode, which helped immensely).
The antagonist didn’t fall far behind. Hot chick, but she shared the same flaws as Canaan (hurr durr maybe it has to do with them actually having the same name), and the cliched self-nihilistic attitude from some villains. She was so cliched, we even get to see the “saving-the-villain-from-falling-only-to-have-her-force-herself-to-fall-anyways”. Man I just shaked my head at that scene. The other characters were all so irrelevant (that includes Noto’s character -some banshee-) that I don’t even feel like talking about them. Maybe Mino was the only noteworthy male character aside from Nakata’s taxi driver (his lamenting over losing the chance to bang Hakko in the last episode makes him likeable enough), but that’s it.
TL;DR if you want to watch a lesbians’ show, pick Ikkitousen or Kannazuki no Miko instead. Those actually do have hot badass voluptuous chicks, with the former having martial arts and the latter having mechas.
Liked: At first.
